Introduction

In today’s complex business environment, crises can happen at any time and organizations need to be prepared to face them. Crisis resolution strategies that are effective and efficient are essential for businesses to survive and thrive. This training program is designed to help businesses prepare for and manage crises with the help of simulations, case studies, and research based on the 8 Good Ways model for crisis resolution.

The Good Ways Model for crisis resolution provides a framework that helps businesses to identify and address crises more effectively. The model is based on 8 principal strategies that businesses can use to manage crises, including Personal Continence, Mental Conscience, Practical Presence, Social Sense, Ethical Absence, Mutual Defense, Empirical Science, and Vital Essence.

Studies

To showcase the effectiveness of these strategies, we have selected two companies for each of the 8 principal strategies, with the help of AI from a long list of candidates. These companies have demonstrated the successful implementation of crisis resolution practices that align with the 8 Good Ways model. Through case studies and research, we explore how these companies have managed crises in the past and what lessons can be learned from their experiences.

The training program is designed to be interactive and engaging, with simulations that help businesses to practice crisis resolution strategies in a safe and controlled environment. Participants will learn how to apply the 8 Good Ways model to their own businesses and how to tailor the model to their specific needs. By the end of the training program, participants will have a better understanding of how to manage crises effectively, and will be better equipped to face any challenges that may arise.

Overall, this training program is an essential resource for businesses that want to be prepared for any crisis that may come their way. With the help of the 8 Good Ways model and the case studies and research presented in the program, businesses can develop effective crisis resolution strategies that will help them to survive and thrive in today’s challenging business environment.

  1. Personal Good Ways – Continence
    • Apple: In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Apple implemented a contact tracing system in partnership with Google to help slow the spread of the virus. This required balancing the need for privacy with the need for effective contact tracing, demonstrating their commitment to personal continence in crisis resolution.
    • TOMS: TOMS has made a name for themselves with their “One for One” business model, donating one pair of shoes to someone in need for every pair purchased. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they shifted their focus to producing and donating masks, demonstrating their commitment to personal continence by prioritizing the safety and well-being of their customers and the community.
  2. Mental Good Ways – Conscience
    • Volkswagen: In the wake of the “Dieselgate” scandal, Volkswagen was faced with a crisis of public trust. To address this, they launched a campaign called “Drive Bigger” which focused on promoting the company’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. This campaign demonstrated their mental conscience by taking responsibility for their actions and working to rebuild trust with their customers.
    • Nestle: Nestle has been criticized for their environmental practices, particularly with regards to their use of single-use plastics. In response, they have set ambitious sustainability goals, such as becoming carbon neutral by 2050 and using 100% recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025. This demonstrates their mental conscience by acknowledging their impact on the environment and taking steps to address it.
  3. Practical Good Ways – Presence
    • Amazon: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon faced a surge in demand for essential goods and struggled to keep up with shipping times. They responded by hiring over 175,000 new employees and implementing safety measures to protect their workers. This demonstrates their practical presence by being able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and providing essential goods to their customers in a timely manner.
    • Airbnb: In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Airbnb launched their Disaster Response and Relief program, which allows hosts to offer their homes to displaced individuals in times of crisis. This demonstrates their practical presence by using their platform to provide practical assistance to those in need during a crisis.
  4. Social Good Ways – Sense
    • TOMS: In addition to their “One for One” model, TOMS has also launched a campaign called “Stand for Tomorrow” which focuses on promoting social justice and equality. This demonstrates their social sense by using their platform to address social issues and promote positive change.
    • Nike: Nike’s “Dream Crazy” campaign, which featured Colin Kaepernick, sparked controversy but ultimately demonstrated their commitment to social sense by taking a stand on important social issues and promoting diversity and inclusion.
  5. Ethical Good Ways – Absence
    • Volkswagen: The “Dieselgate” scandal also exposed Volkswagen’s unethical practices with regards to emissions testing. In response, they paid billions of dollars in settlements and fines and implemented new corporate governance policies. This demonstrates their ethical absence by acknowledging their wrongdoing and taking steps to prevent similar behavior in the future.
    • H&M: H&M faced criticism over a racially insensitive advertisement featuring a black child wearing a sweatshirt. The company apologized, withdrew the product, and hired a Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion. They partnered with the United Nations to promote sustainable fashion and inclusivity, demonstrating their commitment to ethical absence.
  6. Mutual Good Ways – Defense
    • Airbnb: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Airbnb launched their Enhanced Cleaning Initiative, which sets new cleaning standards for hosts and provides them with the resources to clean and disinfect their homes effectively. This demonstrates their mutual defense by prioritizing the health and safety of both their hosts and guests during a crisis.
    • Delta Air Lines: In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Delta Air Lines partnered with Habitat for Humanity to provide disaster relief to affected areas. This demonstrates their mutual defense by using their resources to provide aid and support to those in need during a crisis.
  7. Empirical Good Ways – Science
    • Pfizer: Pfizer’s development of a COVID-19 vaccine was a major scientific breakthrough that demonstrated the power of empirical science in crisis resolution. Their vaccine has been shown to be highly effective and has helped to slow the spread of the virus around the world.
    • IBM: During the COVID-19 pandemic, IBM launched their Watson Assistant for Citizens, which provides information and support to individuals affected by the virus. This demonstrates their commitment to empirical science by using data and technology to provide practical solutions to real-world problems.
  8. Vital Good Ways – Essence
    • Nike: Nike’s “You Can’t Stop Us” campaign, which featured athletes from around the world, demonstrated their commitment to vital essence by promoting the power of sport and the human spirit to overcome adversity.
    • TOMS: TOMS’ “One Day Without Shoes” campaign encourages people to go barefoot for a day to raise awareness about the importance of access to shoes for people in need. This demonstrates their vital essence by using their platform to promote social good and inspire positive change.

Conclusion

In conclusion, by learning from the best and applying the 8 Good Ways model, businesses can be better prepared to face any crisis that may come their way. With the help of case studies, simulations, and research, this training program provides a comprehensive and engaging approach to crisis resolution.
